Unbroken Dream: Book Three of The Verbecks of Idaho
“In a town where everyone knows your name, can you escape your father’s shame?“

The wedding was beautiful, the guests were happy, and Daisy Lewin was hunting. Not for romance or champagne or small-town charm, but for a grumpy old man who probably didn’t want to be found. She swept her gaze across the reception one final time, searching for Bruce Buller among the sea of unfamiliar faces. Nothing. Just two scowling women at a corner table who looked like they’d rather be anywhere else. Geez, she hoped she didn’t look like that when she got old.
Her chest tightened with disappointment and something deeper—grief, raw and relentless. Six months since her grandfather’s death, and she still couldn’t think about him without feeling like someone had reached into her ribcage and squeezed. Fred Lewin’s farmland was out there somewhere beyond these mountains, owned by a man who didn’t love it the way her grandfather had. The way she would. Tonight was supposed to be her chance to start getting it back. Instead, she was alone at a wedding, mourning a dream that felt more impossible by the minute.

Note from the Author
With this final story for the Verbecks, I wanted to leave readers with something truly memorable—a sendoff that captured the heart, humor, and spirit of the entire series. Peter, the ever-playful big brother known for his quick wit and endless jokes, was long overdue for a challenge that would force him to grow beyond the role of comic relief. I relished crafting a storyline that let him step into new territory, revealing layers of vulnerability and depth beneath his lighthearted exterior. Giving Peter a journey that tested him emotionally—and ultimately rewarded him with love—was both a challenge and a joy as a writer.
Developing Daisy was an absolute delight. She’s bold, authentic, and unapologetically herself—a “F%$# around and find out” kind of woman who refuses to be underestimated. Daisy’s energy and confidence made her the perfect foil for Peter: she pushed him to confront his own fears and insecurities, refusing to let him hide behind humor. Their chemistry was electric, full of playful banter, stubborn clashes, and genuine tenderness. Watching Daisy and Peter break each other’s walls down, while also helping each other grow, felt like watching two puzzle pieces finally snap together.
Mr. Buller also became a standout favorite of mine. He’s fiery, tough, and sometimes ornery, but there’s always a mischievous twinkle in his eye—a mix of wisdom and trouble that kept everyone, including me, on their toes. His presence added extra spark and depth to the Verbeck family’s story, making every scene he appeared in more lively and unpredictable.
Bringing the series to a close with this book was bittersweet. I wanted readers to feel a sense of closure and celebration, but also to carry a bit of nostalgia for the world and characters they’d come to love. I’ve written a few extra scenes that look into the Verbecks’ future, available on my blog. I hope these stories keep the Verbecks alive in your hearts long after the last page is turned.
